When I was choosing a host, it was really confusing. There are just too many hosts out there. I'd find a host with a ton of good reviews, then in the next forum, I'd find just as many reviews about how bad they are. I had decided on a host probably five times before thinking about WireNine.
Why did I choose WireNine? Believe it or not, it's because I noticed how active one of the tech guys is in one of the major hosting forums. I knew right then and there that this wasn't a fly-by-night host. If the people who work here are dedicated to being part of the community, I believe that it is reflected in the service that is offered. I was right. I've only been here for about four months, but I haven't had a single problem. Actually, I've run into a few obstacles (due to my own lack of knowledge about building/maintaining websites, not due to the host) and tech reps have helped me every time. It's nice to know that I can find a representative online (on your main page) and chat with him at almost any time of the day - it seems like that, anyway, I think I've seen that the customer service rep is "offline" only once since I've been here. And within an hour or so, somebody was back online, ready to help out. I am absolutely sure that if I have a problem, I just need to click on the main page's chat button, and I'll have a solution within minutes. Unbelievable. The price is very fair, too. I've seen cheaper, but the other places get you to commit to a year (or two! ouch!) before getting the good prices. No way am I going to sign up for two years at a time. WireNine gave me the same price whether I want to be here for a month (to try it out) or any other longer period of time. Not once did I feel that this host was trying to make me commit to something I wasn't comfortable with. Plus, the normal WireNine rate is very competitive! The actual services offered are incredible, too. All of the tools (and way more than I expected) are available. It's my first time using Fantastico, and I'm already hooked. It makes it so easy to add really interesting and professional looking things to your site. If you're reading this and trying to decide whether or not to go with WireNine as your host, give it a shot! I never thought I'd be so confident about a web host. To WireNine: Feel free to use this testimonial in any way or edit it as you'd like (I know I started to ramble in there). I'm hoping that my experience will help at least one person make a good choice by going with WireNine. Thanks for the great service!! Dave Homenuck www.pancakelane.com |

Never heard of Rv Site Builder... The website itself was put together from scratch. I used Nvu (it's free and has more functions than the average person would need) for a lot of it, along with an old fashioned text editor. The background for the main website was changed in the HTML. The shopping cart's colours are all controlled by the CSS stylesheets, which look (to me - I'm new to CSS) like HTML on crack. The shopping cart part of the site (anything with "zen" in the url) was done through manually editing CSS files for the shopping cart (Zencart - it's awesome, btw!). I had to open up a bunch of files by hand, change the CSS code (I never knew how to do this before making the site) by modifying one value at a time, refreshing the site to see what changed, until I figured out more or less how everything works. After you do it a few times, you'll get an idea of how it all goes together.I'm sure somebody knows a much better way to do this, but in order to match the colour schemes for the website and the shopping cart (from HTML-style #xxxxxx to RGB or CMY - I forget already, it's whatever the CSS needs) I'd open up Gimp (Adobe Photoshop should probably do this, too), get into the "change foreground colour" dialog (or any similar ones - as long as you can enter the colour values), enter the HTML colour information and it would translate it into what I needed to plug into the CSS. Sounds like a lot of work, but all I needed to do was have the Gimp open for matching colours, have Konqueror open for ftping files (or whatever ftp program you'd use depending on your OS), kwrite (or whatever text editor you like) for editing the values, and that's about it. Oh yeah, and a web browser for refreshing the site to see how it looks to the outside world. There's probably a ton of programs out there that'll do everything in a far easier way, but I didn't bother with them. ![]() Dave Last edited by Davey; Jun 1st, 2006 at 08:49 PM. |
