Default How to check if port 25 (smtp) is blocked

If you are having issues sending out e-mails, here is how to check if port 25 (smtp) is blocked by your ISP.
  • On your windows 98/ME/2000/XP, click on Start->Run...
  • enter cmd and click on OK
  • type the following:
  • telnet yourdomain.com 25 (replace yourdomain.com with your domain)
If you get the message:
could not open connection to the host, on port 25: connect failed

then port 25 is probably blocked by your ISP/Firewall and you may not be able to send email using mail.yourdomain.com

Please contact your ISP/Software vendor directly.

We also have exim running on port 26 for this very reason. A possible work around is to change your outgoing mail to port 26.
