Well, it's a nice simple layout, which I like but it seems.. well incomplete in a sense. It seems the navigation is just hanging out there with no connection to the rest of the layout, and the bottom content just seems to be thrown in there. Maybe that's what you wanted, maybe not, just what I see. My only other concern is the lack of color, which I believe this should help you out: http://mpk.deviantart.com/journal/3752071/ . Written by a very intelligent person who I've seen critique many layouts extensively and helped a lot of people.

Good luck with your site and thanks for choosing WireNine!

thanks for the comment!
it does look incomplete, and the articles page just sucks.
as far as color goes, i was thinking of adding a shadow effect, but after testing it, it didnt enhance the page.
i was going for simplicity. i will see how i can improve i, probably will add a sitemap.

the bottom content, do you mean the copyright or the above where it has the videos and such?

Well you may want to try forums that specialize in design. Try: www.yaxay.com for instance.

here is a design i am working on,
http://www.thesportselite.com/index4.html
its not complete, but it will try and fix some of the issues you highlighted, the shadows make it look less drab, the flash has been replaced, the links and such are on the left,

what do you recommend as far as the content portion, the home page will be like a portal, so the small videos, and bits of articles will still be there.

thanks for the links both of you.
ive just been spending the days revamping and thinking about seo, and bandwidth, and traffic, and being a webmaster...

anyway after going through 10ish designs
here is another one, probably the best one:
http://www.thesportselite.com/index10.html

i removed flash, replaced it with a css menu, added shadows, switched everything around, and added some other stuff..

maybe you guys can give some specific advice:

see how it is split with the gray line between latest videos, and blogs, well that looks fine, but does it look dumb with the second set under it? (the one that says new articles, forum, that grey line)?

see the white space above affiliates, what in gods name do i put there?

anything else about it.

keep in mind that is just the home page that will try and bring the site together

Not too shabby! Looking a lot better, but still needs some color to spice it up. Maybe add some of the blue in "elite" around the site. The lines look good, not dumb at all. Also the two borders on the sides of the entire layout need to be stretched to the full length of the website, if ya need any help with coding I can try and help ya' out. A bit rusty with HTML but should be able to get the job done =p
